Matthew began his piano studies when he was 7 years old, with the exciting song entitled The C Song. When he was finally able to, he attended The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam where he studied piano with Eugenia Tsarov. While at Crane he studied solo piano, as well as chamber music and vocal accompanying. While at Crane he had the honor to perform at several masterclasses, including a masterclass featuring Crane alumni Renee Flemming.

Following his bachelors he was accepted with Scholarship to a 6 week program in Salzburg, Austria, where he studied Solo Piano, Vocal Accompanying and German. Upon returning home he attended Western Michigan University where he received a Masters Degree in Piano Performance while studying with Lori Sims. While at Western he also continued to study both chamber music and vocal accompanying, as well as course work in vocal coaching.

All throughout his life Matthew has taken great enjoyment in working in the musical theatre world. He played in his first show back in 1998 and has worked in theater ever since. He has been rehearsal accompanist, show accompanist, keyboard player, pianist/conductor and music director for a number of shows throughout upstate NY and Michigan.

After graduation from Western, Matthew worked as a freelance musician in Kalamazoo MI. During this time he worked as church organist/choir accompanist, cocktail pianist, recitalist, and accompanist in many venues around Western Michigan.

In 2006 Matthew decided that he wanted to travel the world, play a wide variety of music and get paid for it, so he began working for Holland America Cruise Lines. He worked for HAL as Music Director/Pianist/Band Leader for over 6 years and was able to travel to see all 7 continents in his travels. Playing everything from Disco to Bluegrass to Flamenco to Rock and Roll he opened up his range of music dramatically. During his time cruising the 7 seas he accompanied over 100 cabaret shows was able to perform with artists such as singer/songwriter Melissa Manchester, pianist extraordinaire Elliot Finkel, and Phantom of the Opera star Dale Kristien, and John Denver Tribute Artist Jim Curry.

Matt has been living in New York City and is working as a freelance musician.


Currently Matthew is a freelance pianist in the New York City area.
